Small Boat Coxswain

Aim

The aim of this course is to train participants in the safe operation of a small boat (RHIB, FRC, Zodiac, Workboat)

Course Content

The following subject are explained through theory and practical demonstration throughout the small boat coxswain course:

• Mechanical and Electrical engine checks
• Types of launch and recovery techniques
• Rules of the road (ROTR)
• Small boat safety equipment
• Righting a capsized small boat
• Recovery of a man overboard
• Approaching and leaving a wharf or another vessel
• Before and after use maintenance
• Basic navigation
• Handling small boat in inclement weather

Course Duration

This course is run over two days. Day one is spent in the classroom learning the theory side of small boast operations, whilst day two is practical exposure to hone in on the participants skills.
